“Bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.” – Galatians 6:2

As we approach Thanksgiving, that Scripture verse seems especially appropriate. It inspires me to think of all the people who have helped Family Honor’s family-centered outreach over many, many years now. You have borne others burdens through your prayers, financial support, and volunteer work for Family Honor. And you have helped even though you didn’t know most (or maybe ANY) of the moms or dads or children or ministry leaders or single adults your sacrifices were impacting.

Along those lines, I’d like for you to hear from one of the people you didn’t meet. She went through our Family Honor class a while ago. Her comments could speak for many others who have had similar experiences.

“I learned so much from taking this [Family Honor] course. I learned a lot about myself, about my children, about my marriage and about people in general.  I learned that talking to my children is the most important relational thing that I can do for them and for me. I learned that I can present in front in others information that I find extremely important … I learned, much to my surprise, that an AMAZING number of people in my life have no problem with premarital sex, teen sex, condom use, sterilization and the abuse of inappropriate video games, taped movies and tv programs. I find this new knowledge the most disturbing.  I also have learned that many people are willing to listen and learn about the information I have been discovering. So many people are just uninformed … about the topic and not knowing of how to deal with it with their children (any age).

I believe that taking this course has made me a better person, a better Catholic, a better mother, a better friend and a better co-worker.  Knowing the troubles out there that aren’t being addressed makes me want to help everyone. I want to let people know how happy they can be when living life according to God’s plan. I hope that it helps me be a better Catholic by helping my parish and diocese with presenting classes to fellow Catholics about the teachings of the Church. I know it makes me a better mother by my improved listening skills, my knowledge that I can share, and my openness in talking about “taboo” subjects. I think I can be a better friend and co-worker by sharing the information I have learned. I already have some co-workers interested in taking the class with their students. Being willing to talk about these subjects makes it easier for others to talk about them. They can voice their opinions and share information and, I find, are open about listening to my information.

Thanks a bunch!!”

I’d like to wish everyone a happy and blessed Thanksgiving. And to our supporters, volunteers, and prayer network, I’d also like to say “thanks a bunch” for your loving concern for others.

If you would like to make a difference in someone else’s life through Family Honor, please consider an end-of-year gift to our Open the Door to the Future: Campaign for Families
